In my first edition, Understanding Hypocrisy: Part 1, I focused mostly on what hypocrisy is all about. Let's discuss the Five Biblical Ways to Conquer Hypocrisy today. I think one of the major issues that many households and businesses face, especially those who say they are God's children, is hypocrisy. Being hypocritical involves saying or acting under false pretense, and this is quite unfortunate. The Bible urges us to act sincere and truthfully in our dealings with God and other people, as well as giving warnings against hypocrisy.
I am more than happy to share the Five Biblical Ways to Conquer Hypocrisy with you here because I have diligently practiced them as a born-again Believer for a significant portion of my Christian life. I dedicate this work entirely to God as its author, who has given me the gifts of the Spirit and revelation to send out the gospel to more people through the power of the internet. I am grateful for each and every insight I have gained from some of the best academic institutions in my quest to know God. Here are The Five Biblical Ways to Conquer Hypocrisy.
1. Sincerity
Sincerity in acknowledging our hypocrisy is the first step toward overcoming it. Our Lord Jesus said:
Matthew 7:3: And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Some of us require that level of sincerity to assess our lives and allow God to show us any places where we have been inconsistent or dishonest. We require that sincerity in order to acknowledge our transgressions, turn from them, and implore God's pardon and purification. Whatever title someone may possess has nothing to do with this. No one will get to heaven with a title.
2. Seek God’s Grace and Truth.
Putting your faith in God's grace and truth is the next step to conquering hypocrisy. You know we are under grace, but that doesn't mean we should keep living in sin or have the option to do so. Grace gives us the ability to serve God. The truth is that, despite our best intentions, we are powerless to alter who we are. We need God's grace and direction. And God's grace is capable of doing that.
John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. We need to abide by the word of God and follow its commands, which are not burdensome but lead to freedom and peace of mind.
3. Loving God and Others.
Jesus declares, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. Love your neighbor as yourself is the second commandment. (Matthew 22:37-39). With everything we are and have, we must love God and show our love for Him through worship, submission, thanksgiving, and service. As far as I can tell, we struggle with loving others as ourselves. And I am going to tell you why.
I can still recall the three-day outdoor revival meeting from a few years ago, to which I was invited as a guest. Until the final night, the program was a success. Unintentionally, a young man was brought to stand with us at the podium. He was a servant of God, but the organizer didn't like the notion of letting him stand next to her.The disagreement that night almost cost us the progress we had made the night before. I was very vocal in telling the organizer that I didn't appreciate how she was acting.
I wonder how someone who claims to love God will look down on her fellow humans with disdain. The absence of love for others was the cause of what transpired that day. We need to treat people with kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity in order to demonstrate our love for them as children of God.
4. Humility and Accountability
All of God's children are required to have humility and accountability as their watchwords. As stated in Matthew 23:12: And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Fact-check (1Samuel 3:3-11), the details of Prophet Samuel's call. At the time, he was not even conscious of God's calling. He had to run to his boss Eli when God was calling him those three times in a row. It was a matter of accountability, and God knew that the young Samuel would subsequently hear from Him because of Eli.
We must acknowledge that no one is superior to anyone and that we must be totally reliant on God's mercy and love. Along with being accountable to God and others, we also need to be willing to accept correction and advice when we make mistakes or fall short of expectations. Because so few people are not aware of what mentoring is, which is why I frequently bring it up in my writing.
5 Seek Growth and Transformation.
If you want to excel in the Lord, transformation and growth are essential. Apostle Paul stated, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
We need to work towards our spiritual growth and holiness through reading God's word, praying, fasting, meditating, worshiping, serving, and giving among other things.
This is because, our development and progress would be deficient or flawed without the counsel of other seasoned believers. It is like a computer in that, regardless of how high-quality it is, when it is out of updates, it becomes vulnerable to viruses and other online threats.
Are you certain that you have not missed an update in your spiritual life? Then self examination will help.
There are many things we cannot know on our own except we are willing to learn from others. We also need to allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us, producing His fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, (Galatians 5:22–23).
I am fully convinced that overcoming hypocrisy in a biblical sense is feasible when some of the measures shared in this post are upheld. Let's emulate Jesus, who is the ideal representation of sincerity and integrity, by adhering to these guidelines.
We can also stay out of God's punishment that will be meted out to hypocrites. (Matthew 24:51), and take pleasure in the recompense that God will grant the obedient. May God grant us all success as we seek to honor Him in all that we say, think, and do in Jesus name.
