Change Your Life's Direction With God's Word. Part 3.
I'm pleased with the overwhelming positive response my previous post, Step 2: "Direction of Seeing," is getting, Learn more. I made a promise to you that you wouldn't regret reading Step 3, "Direction of Hearing."
My writing today is jam-packed with biblical, personal, and other testimonies that I hope will enrich your life. Please, there is love in sharing. I want you to consider sharing this blog with family and friends so they too can benefit from the inspiration and revelation of God's word you enjoyed here.
Out of all the voices in the world, what voice do you hear? There are other voices besides the voice of God. They are voices of the devil and voices that can be picked up by radio, television, and the telephone networks. Just last week, a woman said she heard a voice directing her to kill her husband. According to reports, she killed her husband while he was still asleep, just like that!
Let me say it out loud: God is a spirit, and we are all spirits in different dimensions. God may decide to speak to us through either our physical or spiritual senses. Christians should select mentors to help them on their journey to hearing from God. One thing no one can take away from them is this: Whether or not you realize it, God is constantly speaking to you. You might, however, not be aware. Take Samuel as an illustration. Even though Samuel was unable to distinguish between God's voice and that of his master, God continued calling him.
The Call of Samuel.
When the Lord called Samuel, he was a little boy. He wasn't even aware that the Lord was calling him because he was that young. He could have missed the call of God on his life if it weren't for his mentor Eli's intervention. Some questions cry for an answer, and one of those questions is the call of Samuel. Despite having all knowledge, the Lord seems to be acting as if Samuel, hearing His voice, could answer Him directly.
Nevertheless, an impressive lesson has been learned. The lesson is that we won't be excused from getting away because of our ignorance. Samuel had no idea when God was calling him. God still called Samuel despite Samuel not knowing that the voice he heard was God's. In contrast, Eli's relationship with God was strained as a result of his rebellious sons. Samuel was a young boy, and to expect such a person to mentor him was unbecoming in the Bible.
1 Samuel 3:4: That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
1 Samuel 3:5: And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
1 Samuel 3:6: And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
1 Samuel 3:7: Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.
1 Samuel 3:8: And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.
1 Samuel 3:9: Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
1 Samuel 3:10: And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
1 Samuel 3:11: And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
Direction to Hearing from God is life-saving.
The prophet Isaiah experienced a similar circumstance. He described himself as a man with uncleaned lips who lived and worked alongside other people who also had uncleaned lips. But all of that suddenly changed when he heard the voice of God. He experienced an immediate transformation. From that day on, Isaiah became a prophet who lived until the end of his life. What an amazing encounter!
Isaiah 6:5: Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Isaiah 6:8: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
My online ministry officially got off the ground on the day I heard the voice saying to me, "My servant, I am sending you to reach more people with my word. This was how my mission, "to reach more people with the word of God through the power of the internet," got started. We live in an era when men are directed and guided by the voice of the Holy Spirit.
Do you recall when Saul, who was later known as Paul and Banabas, began their ministry? The Holy Spirit reportedly spoke to them while they were fasting and worshipping the Lord. He says, Separate Saul and Barnabas for the work to which I had called them. Today, we all need to come to terms with this truth.
Acts 13:2: As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Many years ago, as I clearly recall, I heard a voice in the spirit telling me to rush out from under the high-tension cable, which I obeyed. And I immediately depart. Three minutes later, the high-tension tower supporting the high-voltage wire that I was beneath collapsed, resulting in the total destruction of all parked cars, numerous fatalities, and a great number of injuries. My life was spared at a time when I might have died along with others because I heard and followed the direction God had given me. What a supernatural escape I had!
Last month, one morning, I heard a voice when I woke up. And it says, "Never receive or eat any food from anyone this month," the voice warns. Just before the month came to a close, someone expressed his rage and said that I was fortunate to have opted out of the two reception dinners that were organized. He says I was a thorn in his flesh because I was always given the role of preaching while he sat down to listen. That was the only crime I committed. And he made it very plain that a voice had directed him to poison me during those receptions. Sadly, for him, I didn't taste the food or drink that was served to me.
Prior to the preceding month, this person in question and I never had any ongoing conflicts; in fact, he was so concerned about me that he routinely called to check on my daily schedule. In any case, if I hadn't listened to the voice of God in the spirit guiding me during that month, I would have been poisoned, dead, and gone, and I wouldn't be sitting down to write all of this now.
I am a living witness; thanks be to God!
All of the above are advantages to getting direction through hearing the voice of God. The highest experience in this world is hearing from God. It is worth the fervor and godliness that the Bible demands. I pray that God will lead us to the fullest understanding of who He is in Jesus name.
Thought for Today:
1) Every genuine child of God ought to have a deep desire to hear from Him.
2) The greatest accomplishment of Christians is receiving divine direction through hearing from God.
3) Did not He, who made the tongue and the eyes, speak and see? And if such is the case, why do people continue to die as if there is no God?
Friend, let me sum it up with this: Take your time and develop your ability to hear the voice of God. It pays to walk in the spirit. I sincerely apologize for the length of time it has taken me to answer some of your questions. This is due to the large number of emails I receive daily. I will send you a letter containing counseling and prayers that I hope will help you live a transformed life.
It will be my pleasure to have you read Step 4 (The Direction of Moving) in my upcoming posting.
